(c.f. this thread
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,14031905
which has some fairly erudite comments on over-utilization in nyc, and some placating weasel-words from a speakeasy rep. I wonder if I should attach any importance that speakeasy’s complaint^Wthreat* to me came soon after my downgrading of service to a cheaper plan…?)

yes, threat, they made vague noises about cutting me off if I did not stop using all of the bandwidth I pay for. fer chrissakes, this is dsl not cable jeez. if only such a termination could get me out of my contract… somehow I doubt that heh.

just got a call today from speakeasy, complaining that I have been “over”-utilizing my circuit. the utter gall—they explicitly make a big deal about how they let you use your connection any way you like, and then go on to nitpick over vague definitions of bandwidth ‘abuse’ in their TOS . I don’t need this—if I wanted to be forced to manage my net usage, I would have been happy to pay $15/mo for crappy verizon or ool service instead of $100/mo for speakeasy.

can’t see any way out of my contract, but as soon as it ends you bet I will be switching to an equally evil yet much cheaper provider (one can only hope that fios is available come october…)
